Editing Contact Information

When editing contacts, you can edit your data or the data stored with the Firm version of the contact.

To edit a contact, select it in a contact grid and choose Edit > Contact. You can also choose Edit Contact Details from the Contact Overview page.

Edit Your Information about a Contact

  1. Select the contact and choose Edit > Contact. Alternatively, choose Edit Contact Details from the Contact Overview page.

    InterAction displays the Edit Contact page.

  2. Edit address and phone information for the contact. The fields on the screen indicate which ones are required. A phone number or email address or both may be required.

    • Enter phone and address information in the fields.

    • If the person is associated to an existing company, you can select to use one of the company’s locations for the person’s Business Address. Choose Change Business Location, select the address and choose OK.

    • InterAction includes Keep Confidential check boxes () next to all business and home address, phone, and electronic address fields. Select these check boxes if you do not want to contribute this information to the Firm.

    • You can select if you want to review updates to this contact before they are applied - OR -

    • You can select to automatically keep this contact up to date (confidential information is not automatically updated).

  3. To edit other information about the contact, such as Categories And Custom Fields or Notes, choose the appropriate link on the Edit Contact page.

  4. When finished, choose Save. InterAction saves the changes to the contact.

Editing My Contacts

[A] Choose these links to edit other types of information.

[B] Choose this to select a different address from the person’s company.

[C] Tip – select the state or province from the drop-down list. Note that the items available in the list are based on the selected country. Note that for some countries, the state/province field is not applicable and won’t be shown.

[D] Edit phone and address information in these fields.

[E] Select the lock check boxes for any information you do not want to contribute to the firm list.

Edit the Firm's Information about a Contact

  1. Open the View Contact dialog box.

    • Select the person or company from any contact list or search results page by highlighting the contact, then choose View > Contact.

    • Alternatively, you can go to the Contact Overview page for the contact and choose the All Phones and Addresses link.

  2. Choose the Firm Contact link to display the Firm’s information.

  3. Choose the Edit link for the information to change.

    • The View Contact dialog box includes “slots” for the Primary Business and Primary Home locations. Choose the Edit link next to the location you want to edit.

    • Once one of the Primary slots is filled in, the name is updated to reflect the location. For example, the Primary Business slot is now called Nashville, while the Primary Home slot is still empty.

    • The More Phones & Electronic Addresses group includes all phones and e-addresses that are not tied to a specific location.

    • Any phones or addresses on the person that are shared from the person’s associated company are displayed with a company icon ().

  4. Edit the information and choose Save.

    Depending on your organization’s rules for the information that you edited, you may receive a message indicating that your change has been submitted for review. If this occurs, your change may not immediately appear on the contact. After the change has been reviewed and determined to be accurate, a Data Steward may approve the change.
